My Plastic Surgeon USA Articles: Would You Change Your Breast Size?

Two women who did - and got dramatically different results - share their stories in this article.

These two women, Ashlie and Patricia, share what it is like to live in a culture that emphasizes the importance that breast size plays and why they chose to undergo elective breast augmentation and reduction surgery. Although their motivations for their surgeries are different and their results are different, their perspectives on the process and the results are important for women considering breast augmentation and reduction surgeries.

BOTOX parties a bad idea

In a press release by the ASAPS (The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery) they want to raise awareness about the dangers of unlicensed personnel performing medical cosmetic procedures in non-clinical settings such as BOTOX and other tissue fillers at shopping malls, beauty salons or in their own homes.

There is huge concern over unlicensed or untrained personnel giving these injections and performing these procedures in non-clinical settings.
Cosmetic procedures, including tissue filler injections, laser therapies, chemical peels and skin resurfacing, should only be done under the care of properly credentialed and trained medical professionals using only products approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The Right Filler is Key to Successful Treatment

Fillers are commonly used to treat facial lines and wrinkles, hollow cheeks, receding chins, thinning lips and wrinkles between the eyes. Other procedures such as laser rejuvenation, which can improve the skin's tone and texture, and botulinum rejuvenation, which can relax the muscles that cause wrinkling, can do many things to improve a person's appearance. However, they cannot address the loss of volume that happens with aging. Only fillers can increase the skin's volume, much like putty fills a crack.

Selecting the proper filler is an important part of the process. Some fillers are intended for superficial wrinkles and some work best for deeper wrinkles. Others are better for deep cheek hollows and facial lipoatrophy, the severe facial fat loss that can happen to people who are HIV-positive.

Saline or Silicone...how do I choose?

How do I know which implant to choose? Saline or Silicone?

There's a great article on My Plastic Surgeon USA that discusses the pros and cons of both types of implants. It's a very tough choice for women to decide which implant to go with. Although the silicone implants feel much more real than the saline implants, they're also more expensive.

These details often leave women wondering which option is best for them.

Which would you choose?

The Right Filler is Key to Successful Treatment

A Dermatologist Can Assess Your Skin and Select a Filler that Best Suits Your Particular Needs

As people live longer and healthier lives, more and more of them are looking for ways to look as young as they feel. Because the aging process causes the face to lose underlying fat and collagen, the skin starts to sag and wrinkle. Wrinkle fillers, commonly known as fillers, can give the skin back its plumped up, youthful appearance, but the key to their successful use is knowing which of the many available options will work best for each individual.

New First-of-Its Kind Report Shows BOTOX Cosmetic May Prevent Development of Facial Lines

Thirteen Year Experience in One Identical Twin Demonstrates Dramatic Difference in Wrinkle Development When BOTOX Cosmetic is Administered Consistently From Age 25

A new case report comparing the appearance of facial lines in identical twins, one of whom received regular BOTOX Cosmetic (botulinum toxin type A) treatments over 13 years beginning at age 25 and one of whom did not, suggests that long-term, consistent treatment with BOTOX Cosmetic may prevent the development of lines that are visible without facial muscle contraction (the so-called "imprint" or "at rest" lines most associated with the aging process). The results are being presented at the American Academy of Dermatology's Annual Winter Meeting in San Francisco.

Women's Self-Image and Sexual Satisfaction Increase After Cosmetic Surgery

Body image and sexual pleasure, including orgasm, enhanced after aesthetic makeovers

According to a study done by Aesthetic Surgery Journal, data from a study shows the impact of aesthetic plastic surgery on body image and sexual satisfaction. Women who undergo common elective cosmetic surgery procedures not only feel better about their bodies, but also have higher degrees of satisfaction with their sex lives, including ability to orgasm. Women in the study who had undergone aesthetic procedures were more sexually satisfied, reported that their partners were more sexually satisfied, dressed to enhance their new figures, and were apt to try more and different sexual activities post-surgery. The greatest benefits were seen in women who had breast augmentation/breast lift and/or body contouring procedures.

This study was published in the January/February 2006 issue of Aesthetic Surgery Journal, the peer-reviewed publication of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).
