Blepharoplasty – Eyelid Lift

Our eyelids are made up of three main components: skin, muscle and fat. As we age these three components begin to lose their structure causing them to sag and droop. This can make us look older than we are and more tired. To improve the eyelids there are three different areas which can be operated on: the Inner Lower, the Outer Lower, and the Upper Eyelid. The “inner” and outer” refer to whether the incision was made inside of the eyelid or outside the eyelid on the natural crease. Obviously the “upper” and “lower” refer to the upper eyelid or lower eyelid. It is possible to have both the upper and lower eyelids treated at the same time, too.

Blepharoplasty, more commonly referred to as an Eyelid Lift, is a procedure to remove excess fat, skin or muscle to create smoother, more alert and youthful looking eyes. Sometimes a patient presents with a few issues which can be improved through Blepharoplasty, such as puffiness, excess skin folds and wrinkles, along with a few issues which cannot be improved through Blepharoplasty, such as dark circles, crows feet or a heavy brow. To improve on the latter, a Plastic Surgeon may suggest a combination Blepharoplasty with another facial rejuvenation procedure such as a brow life, face lit or dermal fillers.
