The Responsibilities of Plastic Surgery
With every surgical procedure, there are various risks that might occur. Although your doctor may be Board Certified and capable of performing your desired surgery, it is not guaranteed that complications will not arise. Complications such as infection, bleeding, blood clots, bad reactions to anesthesia, all have the possibility of occurring.
During your consultation, your plastic surgeon will discuss the possible complications with you. Complications are uncommon, but patients typically appreciate the information ahead of time. Because smoking increases the chances of developing a complication and slows the healing process, you will need to stop smoking two weeks before a surgical procedure and for four weeks afterwards.

Safety Tips For Plastic Surgery Procedures
When considering plastic surgery, it's natural to focus more on the end result than on the surgical process. However, to be fully informed, it's important to learn about the safety of the procedure as well as the expected outcome. Although thousands of people have plastic surgery every year without complications, no surgical procedure is risk-free.
To maximize safety, ensure that:
- Your surgeon is adequately trained and is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery; any MD, can perform plastic surgery, however a doctor who is ABPS Board certified has 6 years of surgical training, specialized training in plastic surgery and is required to continuously update their knowledge and skills.
- The facility where your surgery will be performed conforms to strict safety standards established by the Joint Commission of Hospital Organizations. Hospitals take up to a year preparing to pass this strict, on site inspection, geared to ensure patient safety.
- Your surgeon is informed of any drugs you are taking and your full medical history, especially if you have had any circulation disorders, heart or lung ailments or problems with blood clots;
- The surgical facility will use skilled, licensed personnel to administer and monitor your anesthesia and your recovery immediately following the procedure;
- Extra safety measures are taken if you are having a more extensive procedure. Consult with your Surgeon if you have any concerns.

What's In A Breast Implant
The main components of breast implants include the outside shell also known as the envelope or lumen. Then there is the filler, which is inserted into the shell of the breast. The material that covers the hole where the filler is inserted is called the patch. The shell is made of a single layer known as a "single lumen", however some implants have a double layer with a shell within a shell, then referred to as a double lumen.
