During liposuction a tube and vacuum device are used to remove the excess fat and skin stored within the body. Liposuction can be performed in many places on the body. The most common are abdomen liposuction, buttocks liposuction, hips and thighs liposuction, and upper arms liposuction. These are just a few of the common places, but of course, it is important to consult with your plastic surgeon about what place and procedure is right for you. Collagen 101

Supporting the skin, bone, cartilage and blood vessels, collagen is the main protein of the connective tisue. Composing up 80 percent of the skin, the role of collagen is to maintain the skin's integrity, but collagen breaks down with advancing age. The breakdown of collagen during the aging process can lead to wrinkles, lines and folds. Collagen injections replenish the skin's natural collagen. In 2007, there were 174,290 collagen injections performed in the United States, down about 70 percent from 2000, according to statistics compiled by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

The Joys of Anti-Oxidants

Anti-oxidants are an interesting and exciting process that can restore your physical appearance to a more youthful time. Free radicals are hyperactive molecules that age your skin by damaging your tissues, protein bonds and cells. Free radicals also interfere with your muscles and your immune system, causing wrinkles, sagging skin, and a dull, rough complexion. Antioxidants may help improve these conditions while affording you many options in your strategy to combat free radicals.

Botox 101

As a non-surgical procedure performed that temporarily reduces frown lines and creases in the forehead, Botox is an excellent option for anyone looking reconstruct their facial structure. In addition, "crows feet" in near the eyes, and thick bands in the neck area are also conditions that botox serves to eliminate. Botox makes your skin smoother, with a more refreshed look. It temporarily prevents the muscles that actually cause wrinkles by blocking the nerve impulses. Botox is also very effective, as found out through studies, to relieve migraine headaches, muscle spasms and even extreme sweating. It is also important to note that Botox is the only treatment of it type that is approved by the Food and Drug administration(FDA). Where Did Plastic Surgery Come From?

Today at My Plastic Surgeon we will be discussing some of the ideologies behind the practice of plastic surgery. The term plastic surgery is derived from the Greek word platikos, meaning to mold, mend, or restore. More specifically, reconstructive surgery repairs the appearance and function of a particular body part or feature defect. There are three prevailing reasons why reconstructive plastic surgery may be appropriate for an individual. One of the prumary reasons comes from the necessity to reconstruct an abnormalty from birth. Often times birth defects are the cause for surgeries later on in life. Next, a traumatic injury could provide people with the need for reconstructive surgery as well. Third, medical reasons can always be attributed to the reason for plastic surgery. Knowing the development of plastic surgery may help to grasp a better understanding for how plastic surgery can serve you.

Will My Breasts Rupture?

There are many possible risks that may arise through the process of plastic surgery. With many possible complications only an incision away, it is important that surgeons use the utmost care during these procedures. Today, we will be discussing one particular complication that arises during breast implant surgery. The possibility of a rupture is something that is real, and a probability for any implant patient. Patients must realize that no implant will last forever. Implants can rupture or break, causing deflation. Many ruptures result from the natural aging of the implant, excessive compression to the breast, or trauma to the breast. If the implant was inserted incorrectly, there is a higher risk of a rupture. The most noticeable effect is that the size and shape of the breast changes. Depending on the size of the rupture, changes in breast appearance can occur over a few days or over a very long period of time. It is important for patients to monitor their breasts constantly to check for possible ruptures or other complications.

The Anatomy of an Implant

Today on Breast Implants USA we will be discussing the anatomy of a breast implant. The main components of breast implants include the shell, which is the outside layer, and is also known as the envelope or lumen. There is the filler, which is inserted into the shell of the breast. And the material that covers the hole where the filler is inserted is called the patch. Usually the shell is made of a single layer known as a "single lumen", however some implants have a double layer with a shell within a shell, then referred to as a double lumen.

Cleft Lips At A Glance

We've all seen cleft lips. They're a tad bit unfortunate, but they can also be dealt with. Cleft lips and cleft palates are congenital abnormalities that affect childrens' ability to eat speak, hear, breath and socialize. Often times, clefts make children more susceptible to other infections, like infections of the ear. In addition, dental problems may also arise, with missing or extra teeth and also cavaties that may arise due to the cleft. Although these birth defects can be debilitating, the good news is that reconstructive plastic surgery can help restore the normal function among children born with cleft lips or cleft palates, also improving appearance and self-confidence.

Endermologie at a Glance

Today at MPS USA we will be touching on an exciting procedure known as Endermologie. A fantastic procedure for body restoration, Endermologie has risen in popularity over the last decage. Designed to reduce the appearance of cellulite, Endermologie is the first non-invasive device approved by the FDA specifically for this purpose. Cellulite occurs when fat cells protrude from around the connective tissue that attaches skin to muscle-and tends to develop in almost 90% of women at some point. Before Endermologie, cellulite treatments generally met with mixed reactions: many people swear by creams and special diets, while doctors insisted that those products do not produce actual results. The latest craze in cellulite treatment is Endermologie, the brand name for a type of roller massage therapy that has been clinically proven to reduce and even erase the signs of cellulite.

Endermologie uses mechanical roller and regulated suction to create symmetrical skin folds, temporarily stimulating circulation to the area. Each Endermologie treatment lasts 30 to 45 minutes, and patients typically need dozen or more treatments for visible results. After the desired effect is achieved, the patient will need to maintain the effects of the cellulite treatment with additional Endermologie sessions at less frequent intervals. Because this cellulite treatment addresses only the appearance of cellulite, and not the root causes, bumps and dimples may reappear in the months after Endermologie treatments cease unless maintenance sessions are performed.

The Process of Butt Augmentation

Butt procedures have risen in popularity of the past couple of years as more people have desired to maintain a more round and full buttocks.

Procedure:

This procedure is designed to enhance the size of the buttocks. Buttock augmentation can be done by using silicone implants or fat from a person’s body, known as fat transfer (or "fat grafting"). Patients who desire buttocks augmentation generally lack fat in this area, or are unable to develop proportionate gluteal muscles.

Side Effects:

Patients must avoid sitting on the buttocks while healing from surgery. With so much stress regularly placed on this area, patients may experience great pain during the recovery period.

Recovery:

Pain, bruising and some discomfort may occur. Buttock implant patients will not be able to lie on their backs for about 2 weeks. Most surgeons recommend wearing a compression garment to hold down swelling. Back to work: 2 weeks.

Ethnic Cosmetic Surgery

Ethnic plastic surgery procedures are on the rise. With more money going into ethnic demographics in America, a greater emphasis has been placed on appearance and body type. Some may wonder how ethnic plastic surgery procedures are on the rise even though we're in an economic downturn. According to Julius Few, of Plastic Surgery Guide,

"There is an increased awareness of the availability of ethnically specific and ethnically appropriate cosmetic treatments. There is also a growing number of surgeons who specialize in ethnic plastic surgery and their techniques can allow patients to maintain their ethnicity. There is nothing wrong with a person of any given background wanting to be the best that they can be."

With various procedures and techniques, ethnic surgical procedures are becoming the norm, allowing people of all colors and ethnicities to achieve the bodies they've always wanted.
