Abdominoplsty - Tummy Tuck Surgery Explained
The abdominoplasty procedure, commonly referred to as the "Tummy Tuck" can be an effective way of eliminating excess fatty tissues and stretched skin, and even tightening weak and collapsed abdominal muscles, dramatically flattening the waistline.
A full abdominoplasty, or Tummy Tuck will take anywhere from 2-5 hours. A partial abdominoplasty usually will take less than 2 hours.
Your plastic surgeon will make an incision from hipbone to hipbone. This is done right above the pubic area. A second incision is then made to free the navel from the surrounding tissue. With partial abdominoplasty, the incision is much shorter and the navel may not be moved, although it may be pulled into an unnatural shape as the skin is tightened and stitched.
Your plastic surgeon will then separate your skin from the abdominal wall, all the way up to your ribs. This will then reveal the vertical muscles in your abdomen. The muscles are then pulled close together, and then stitched into the new position. This is known as muscle tightening and will give you a firmer abdominal wall, and a narrower waistline.
The skin flap, is then stretched down and the extra skin is removed. For your navel, a new hole is cut and stitched in place. The incisions will then be stitched, and a temporary tube may be inserted to drain any excess fluid from the surgical area.
In a partial abdominoplasty the skin is only separated between the incision line and the navel.

Breast Lift Surgery Changes Lives
Breast Reduction Surgery - A Quality of Life Issue
For over 307,00 women in 2008 who elected to undergo Breast Augmentation surgery, the choice that some women make to have their breasts surgically reduced in size may seem like an odd choice. But, what some women may think a blessing, others consider a curse.
Women who have very large breasts that are disproportionate to the rest of their bodies oftentimes complain of back and neck pain, breathing problems and slumped posture. When one considers quality of life, it is no wonder why so many women opt for breast reduction surgery to alleviate the physical problems associated with overly large breasts.
Cosmetic surgeons have developed an amazing technique of Breast Reduction Surgery that alleviates many or all of the physical problems associated with very large breasts by removing excess fat, skin and tissues from the breasts, which makes them smaller, firmer and ultimately, lighter. The goal is to create breasts that are proportionate to the body type and scale of the woman, thus relieving some of the issues associated with very large breasts, including the physical inactivity caused by the pain and discomfort of having overly large breasts.

What is the Breast Augmentation Procedure?
Breast Augmentation recently became the most popular plastic surgery procedure in the United States with over 307,000 surgeries performed in 2008.
What is Breast Augmentation surgery and what does it mean when a plastic surgeon 'specializes' in Breast Augmentation surgery?
Breast Augmentation (Augmentation Mammoplasty)Breast Augmentation surgery, also known as Breast Implants surgery, is an elective surgical procedure that utilizes breast implants prosthesis in order to increase breast size and shape as well as restore breast shape and volume lost due to childbirth and age. Breast Augmentation surgery is also used for breast reconstruction after mastectomy due to breast cancer.
During the procedure, which lasts between 1 - 2 hours, the surgeon creates small inconspicuous incisions in the breast in order to insert the breast implant either under the fatty tissues of the breast or directly under the breast muscle, depending on the look and feel desired. Breast implants are filled with either saline, or silicone material.
Specializing in Breast Implants SurgeryWhen a surgeon says that he or she 'specializes' in Breast Implants surgery, what is usually meant is that their plastic surgery practice includes an emphasis on Breast Augmentation surgery and they probably perform more Breast Augmentation surgeries than any other plastic surgery procedure. It is always important to be sure that your Breast Implants surgeon is Board Certified and be sure to ask how many Breast Augmentation surgeries he or she performs each year. Also, be sure to ask to see the doctor's Before and After Photos - this will give you a good idea of the kind of work the doctor does.

Men Are Seeking Plastic Surgery in Record Numbers
The days are over when men avoid the doctor's office at all costs. They may still resist going for the common cold or flu, insisting rather, to 'man up', but a new trend shows that more and more men are seeking elective plastic surgery in record numbers in what has always been a female dominated market.
In a recent survey of Board Certified Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons reports that the numbers of plastic surgery procedures for men are up 16% from 2002 - 2007. In 2008, the numbers rise even more:
Nose Reshaping - 75,000
Eyelid Surgery - 31,000
Liposuction - 27,000
Men are also opting for non-invasive facial rejuvenation, such as dermal fillers like Restylane, Hylaform plus and Juvaderm.
Men seem to be embracing a new reality, which the opposite sex accepted long ago: if you can look and feel younger when you look in the mirror, then why not?

Find Board Certified Mommy Makeover Surgeons On My Plastic Surgery USA
What Is Mommy Makeover Surgery? The Mommy Makeover procedure is an all-encompassing, body contouring procedure that brings together plastic surgery techniques from several popular procedures including abdominoplasty or tummy tuck, breast lift and liposuction to create an overall body rejuvenation specifically targeting the post-pregnancy issues mothers deal with, such as the stretching and loosening of stomach muscles and skin in the areas of the breasts, thighs and abdominal areas, excess fat in the belly, back and thighs and stretch marks.
Oftentimes, no amount of diet or exercise can restore a mother's body to the firmer, tighter state that she was in before pregnancy. This revolutionary procedure was developed by plastic surgeons to pick-up where diet and exercise fail to meet the desires that most mothers feel after pregnancy. That is, to get back into their pre-pregnancy clothes and restore their shapely pre-pregnancy figures. The Mommy Makeover does just that.
At Mommy Makeover USA you'll find highly qualified, board certified plastic surgeons specializing in Mommy Makeover surgery.

Newport Beach Latisse Eyelash Treatment
Latisse - Newport Beach Plastic Surgeon Dr. Sanjay GroverEveryone wants long, beautiful eyelashes, right?
Many women across the nation are discovering a new way of replacing lost eyelashes with a new treatment called Latisse. It has been approved by the FDA and is specifically designed to thicken, darken and lengthen eyelashes in as little as eight weeks.
This new drug also has exciting possibilities for men and women who've lost their eyelashes due to chemotherapy treatments for cancer.
CNN Medical Corespondent Judy Fortin interviewed Mary Johnson, a 56 year old cancer survivor, who lost her hair and eyelashes as a result of her chemotherapy for breast cancer:
"She said she could put a wig on her head, but for the rest of her face she had to "fake it" by drawing in a lash line and eyebrows with cosmetics.
Johnson tried some over-the-counter lash products, but she said none of them worked.
She was smiling as she received her first dose of Latisse."Until you have lost your eyelashes, you don't really realize how hard it is to put eye makeup on," she said. "When you lose your eyelashes you just don't look the same."
Latisse is available from Newport Beach Plastic Surgeon Dr. Sanjay Grover whose practice specializes in facial rejuvenation, including Botox, Juvederm and Latisse.

My Plastic Surgeon USA Reports New Scale for Evaluating Aging Process
My Plastic Surgeon USA is excited to report that for the first time ever, plastic surgeons will have a universally accepted vocabulary for describing and evaluating the effects of the aging process on the face. Developed by an interdisciplinary team of experts and presented to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery at its annual meeting in Las Vegas, the Merz Scales have the potential to bridge the communication gap between doctor and patient once and for all with a new way of talking about the stages of aging.
"Until now, there were no validated standards for objectively measuring the effects of aging on skin," says Corey Maas, MD, a Merz Scales' investigator. "The Merz Scales provide a common language for both patients and physicians to assess the skin's aging process."
The Merz Scales use five-point scales with digitally altered, computer assisted photography to track specific anatomical changes in the facial structures including skin elasticity, wrinkles and muscle laxity in the underlying structures of the face. If accepted by the plastic surgery community, this could offer a breakthrough in the treatment of cosmetic surgery procedures.

First US Face Transplant A Success!
My Plastic Surgery USA reported several months ago about the first successful face transplant in the United States. Today, Connie Culp, the recipient of the transplant of her upper jaw, upper lip and nose, held a news conference at Cleveland Clinic. Her progress has been outstanding and the surgery has been called a success, due to the skill and innovation of the board certified plastic surgeons who performed the 15 hour long surgery.
From the CNN article:
Dr. Maria Siemionow, the Cleveland, Ohio, hospital's director of plastic surgery research and head of microsurgery training, had more than 20 years of experience in complex transplants. By 2004, Siemionow was looking for the right candidate for a face transplant who wasn't doing it for vanity.
"They are not looking to go out on the street and be beautiful," Siemionow told CNN in a 2006 interview. "Some of these patients, when they were interviewed just said 'I want to walk on the street and just make sure I am not sticking out.' They just want to have a normal face."The doctors examined the patient's history, motivation and ability to understand the risks of the transplant. And they found Culp to be an ideal candidate.
