Facelift

A Facelift or Rhytidectomy removes the loose skin on your face and neck, tightens underlying tissues and removes excess fat. Aging of the face can be caused by a variety of factors including sun exposure, smoking, age, and genetics. The signs of facial aging include loose skin, prominent folds around the mouth, “jowling” along the jaw line, and sagging skin of the neck. Dr. Fedele performs a Facelift procedure to soften the lines on the face giving you more pleasing contours. The result is a smoother, firmer and younger appearance to your face and neck.

Facial rejuvenation can include a facelift procedure in combination with other enhancement procedures to give a harmonious balance to the face. Dr. Fedele performs these other procedures that often include Eyelid lifts (Blepharoplasty), Brow lifts (Endoscopic Technique), and Laser skin resurfacing to compliment the face lifting procedure.

The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia with an overnight stay at an ambulatory surgery center. The Facelift procedure takes about four hours and you will spend about two hours in the recovery room and then be transferred to an overnight room. In the first three to four days you will have the most swelling, but by applying ice and keeping your head elevated you can diminish this swelling. Most people are back in the “public eye” in about ten to fourteen days and back to exercising and full activities in four to six weeks.

All surgical procedures carry risks and Dr. Fedele will spend time with you at your consultation to explain the procedure in detail and any risks involved. This website is designed to give you some basic information about a Facelift and is not a substitute for a comprehensive consultation and exam with Dr. Fedele. Facial Implants

Facial implants are designed to enhance or augment your own facial features. By placing these implants on your cheek bones or chin, they can help bring these areas into better balance with the rest of your face. Dr. Fedele performs Facial Augmentation procedures using implants to enhance or improve the appearance of your face to give you a natural, balanced and youthful look.

The incisions for these procedures are usually hidden in the mouth and heal very quickly, although you can also place the incision for the chin implant just below the chin itself. Chin augmentation is often performed during Rhinoplasty procedures to strengthen and improve the contour of your profile.

The procedure is typically performed under General anesthesia as an outpatient at an ambulatory surgery center. The procedure takes about one to two hours and you will spend about two hours in the recovery room and then be discharged home when stable. In the first three to four days you will have bruising and swelling, but by applying ice and keeping your head elevated you can diminish this swelling. Most people are back in the “public eye” in about ten to fourteen days and back to exercising and full activities in four to six weeks.

All surgical procedures carry risks and Dr. Fedele will spend time with you at your consultation to explain the procedure in detail and any risks involved. Fat Transfer

There are many soft tissue fillers available to improve facial lines such as Collagen and Hyaluronic acid. Your body's own fat can also be used to fill in facial lines around the mouth, augment the cheeks, or enhance the lips. By placing fat in these areas, Dr. Fedele can help smooth away unwanted lines or give you fuller lips resulting in a younger, fresher appearance.

Dr. Fedele uses a special technique by removing fat from one part of your body, processing it to separate it into pure fat, and then injecting it into the areas needing refinement. Free fat Transfer can be used in any area of the face that you would use Collagen or Restylane.

The procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia in Dr. Fedele's office, but can be done under sedation with other procedures. The Fat Transfer procedure takes about one hour and you will be discharged home when stable. In the first three to four days you may have the some bruising and swelling, but by applying ice and keeping your head elevated you can diminish this swelling. Most people are back in the "public eye" within a few days and back to exercising and full activities in two to four weeks.

All surgical procedures carry risks and Dr. Fedele will spend time with you at your consultation to explain the procedure in detail and any risks involved. Botox and Soft Tissue Fillers

There are several simple non-invasive in-office procedures available to enhance your appearance. These quick and easy procedures can provide a temporary improvement in fine lines and unwanted folds of the face with little or no down time. Dr. Fedele uses Botox®, Collagen, and Restylane® to diminish fine lines giving you a smoother, more youthful appearance.

Botox® is a purified medical grade toxin that temporarily stops muscle action to prevent lines or wrinkles from forming. It is typically used to diminish those lines between the eyebrows, on the forehead, or the "crow's feet" lines around the eye. It usually lasts between two to four months.

Collagen is a natural protein that is found throughout the body. It can be injected into the skin to supplement your own body's Collagen, providing texture, resiliency, and shape. Zyplast® Collagen is obtained and purified from an animal source and thus requires a test dose to ensure you do not have a reaction. This "bovine" or cow collagen can last 2-4 months. A new product, CosmoDerm® Collagen is obtained from human tissue and does not require a test dose and may last a bit longer than the bovine Collagen.

Restylane® is a non-animal substance that was approved by the FDA in February of 2004. The filler substance is hyaluronic acid and it is a structure normally found throughout your body. Restylane has been used for over 7 years in more than 30 countries and has been injected into more than 1 million people throughout the world with little side effects. Since we started using Restylane in February we have had a very good response. It reportedly lasts for up to six to nine months, but many people are getting another injection in about 6 months. It's ideal for softening the lines that form between the nose and corner of the mouth (Nasolabial fold). We also use it for lip enhancement to give fuller more shapely lips.

These non-invasive procedures are performed in Dr. Fedele's office with little to no down time. Most people are back in the "public eye" immediately with only occasional faint bruising.

All surgical procedures carry risks and Dr. Fedele will spend time with you at your consultation to explain the procedure in detail and any risks involved. This website is designed to give you some basic information about these non-invasive procedures and is not a substitute for a comprehensive consultation and exam with Dr. Fedele. Otoplasty

Protruding ears can be a source for feeling self conscious for children as well as adults. Ear pinning surgery or Otoplasty, is usually done to set prominent ears back closer to the head. The surgery is done on children between ages 4 and 14, but can also be done on adults. Dr. Fedele performs Otoplasty to help make the ears less noticeable giving both children and adults more confidence in their appearance.

The incisions for this procedure are hidden behind the ear and will fade with time. By scoring the cartilage of the ear and placing permanent sutures, the ear is folded back closer to the head and held in place.

The procedure is typically performed under General anesthesia or under sedation with local anesthesia as an outpatient at an ambulatory surgery center. The procedure takes about two hours and you will spend about two hours in the recovery room and then be discharged home when stable. In the first three to four days the ears may throb or ache, but pain medication and head elevation will control this discomfort. Most people are back to school or work in about seven to ten days and back to exercising and full activities in four to six weeks.

All surgical procedures carry risks and Dr. Fedele will spend time with you at your consultation to explain the procedure in detail and any risks involved. Eyelid Lift

Tired appearing eyes with puffiness or “bags” around the eyes can be one of the first signs of aging of the face. An Eyelid Lift or Blepharoplasty removes the excess skin on your upper and lower eyelids and removes excess fat from around your eyes. The result is a more open, rested appearance to your eyes. Dr. Fedele performs an Eyelid Lift procedure to enhance or improve the appearance of your eyes to give you a more rested youthful look.

Eyelid rejuvenation can include additional procedures to improve the appearance of the eyes. Dr. Fedele performs these other procedures which may include a Brow lift (Endoscopic Technique) to raise a drooping eyebrow, and Laser Skin Resurfacing of the lower eyelid to smooth out the fine lines around the eyes to further enhance the results of the Eyelid Lift.

The procedure is typically performed under sedation or “twighlight” anesthesia as an outpatient at an ambulatory surgery center. The Eyelid Lift procedure takes about one to two hours and you will spend about two hours in the recovery room and then be discharged home when stable. In the first three to four days you will have the most bruising and swelling, but by applying ice and keeping your head elevated you can diminish this swelling. Brow Lift

Eyelid Rejuvenation may also include a procedure to lift a drooping (ptotic) eyebrow. By placing the eyebrow into a better anatomic position the eye appears more open and there is less excess tissue on the upper eyelid. In addition, the muscles responsible for the “scowling” lines between your eyebrows are removed to smooth this area. Dr. Fedele performs a Brow Lift procedure to enhance or improve the appearance of your eyes to give you a more rested, less angry, youthful look.

A Brow Lift is often combined with Upper and Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty to rejuvenate the eye. It is also performed at the time of a Facelift to give better balance to the upper and lower face. Dr. Fedele uses the “state of the art” Endoscopic Technique which is minimally invasive, allowing faster recovery with fewer complications.

The procedure is typically performed under General anesthesia as an outpatient at an ambulatory surgery center. The Brow Lift procedure takes about one to two hours and you will spend about two hours in the recovery room and then be discharged home when stable. In the first three to four days you will have bruising and swelling around the eyes, but by applying ice and keeping your head elevated you can diminish this swelling. Most people are back in the “public eye” in about ten to fourteen days and back to exercising and full activities in three to four weeks.

Breast Enlargement

Breast enlargement or augmentation uses implants to increase the size of the breasts, giving them a fuller shapelier appearance. Women with naturally small breasts or those who have lost volume due to pregnancy, weight loss or age can benefit from this procedure. For women who want larger more contoured breasts, Dr. Fedele performs breast augmentation to enhance a woman's figure and add to her self-confidence.

Breast augmentation can be done two ways: Placing the implant under the chest wall muscle (Pectoralis Major Muscle) or over the muscle. Dr. Fedele feels that placing the implant under the muscle (or sub-Pectoral) has the advantages of hiding the implant better in smaller breasted women and can make the incidence of capsular contraction less common (the "capsule" is scar that forms around the implant). The incisions are small and can be placed under the breast in the fold, around the nipple, or through the armpit (Endoscopic Technique).

The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient at an ambulatory surgery center. The procedure takes about one hour and you will spend about one to two hours in the recovery room. The first three to four days is the most uncomfortable, but Dr. Fedele will prescribe pain medication and a muscle relaxant to control the discomfort. Most women are back to work in about seven days and back to exercising and full activities in three to four weeks.

Since the procedure is mainly concerned with the size of the breasts, deciding exactly the right size implants to use is very important. Dr. Fedele has a variety of implant sizers to "try on" in his office to narrow down the right volume to be used. By bringing a non-padded bra and a tight fitting thin shirt and placing a sizer in the bra you can get an idea of what size fits best with your body proportions giving you the best possible enhancement.

All surgical procedures carry risks and Dr. Fedele will spend time with you at your consultation to explain the procedure in detail and any risks involved. Breast Lift

A Breast Lift or Mastopexy contours sagging breasts, giving them a shapelier more youthful appearance. Breasts can lose their shape and elasticity and begin to sag after pregnancy, breast feeding, weight loss, or with age. Loss of breast volume with excess skin is the cause for the sagging resulting in a flattening of the breast and drooping of the nipple. By removing this excess skin and placing the nipple in a higher, more youthful position the breasts have a rounded, raised, and more contoured appearance. For women who have significant sagging (ptosis) and also desire larger shapelier breasts, a breast augmentation along with a breast lift might be the best option. By combining these two procedures the implant will enhance the appearance of the lift and make it longer lasting. Dr. Fedele performs Mastopexy to enhance a woman's figure by returning her breasts to a more youthful appearance thus adding to her self-confidence.

Since there are different degrees of sagging or ptosis, there are varying degrees of lifting procedures. For mild ptosis the incision may be just around the areola (the pigmented skin around the nipple). For moderate or severe ptosis the incisions are made around the areola and continue down from the areola to the breast fold and may be in the fold. These incisions fade with time and are hidden in the fold and at the border of the areola.

The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient at an ambulatory surgery center. The procedure takes about two to three hours and you will spend about one to two hours in the recovery room. The first three to four days is the most uncomfortable, but Dr. Fedele will prescribe pain medication to control the discomfort. Most women are back to work within seven days and back to exercising and full activities in three to four weeks. The recovery may be longer if you have an augmentation along with the lift.

Breast Reduction

A Breast Reduction decreases the size of the breast while lifting and shaping them. Many women with excessively large breasts have complaints of back, neck, and shoulder pain with skin irritation under the breast fold. Breast reduction procedures remove excess breast tissue, skin and fat to reshape and lift your breasts. This can reduce the strain on your back and neck and may relieve the discomfort. Many insurance companies will pay for the procedure if enough breast tissue is removed. Dr. Fedele performs this procedure to greatly benefit women of all ages by relieving discomfort and giving you breasts that are in better proportion to the rest of your body.

Similar to a breast lift, the incisions are made around the areola and continue down from the areola to the breast fold and along the fold. These incisions are permanent but fade with time and are mostly hidden in the fold and at the border of the areola. Dr. Fedele uses a breast reduction surgical technique called an "inferior pedicle," which helps to preserve glandular tissue and its connection to the nipple, so that a woman can retain sensitivity and the ability to breast feed.

The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient at an ambulatory surgery center. The procedure takes about three hours and you will spend about one to two hours in the recovery room. The first three to four days you will have some discomfort, but Dr. Fedele will prescribe pain medication to control this discomfort. Breast Reconstruction

By using implants or your body's lower abdominal tissue, Dr. Fedele can reconstruct your breast after a mastectomy (breast removal) to a natural appearance, improving your body image and restoring balance to your figure. There are advantages and disadvantages to each type of breast reconstruction that you may choose. Depending on your medical history and physical exam Dr. Fedele will explain to you the best option for your individual situation. Breast reconstruction can be performed immediately after breast removal or years later and is covered by your insurance company under federal law. Dr. Fedele is uniquely qualified to offer you the full range of reconstructive options after breast removal and will help guide you through the entire process to make an educated decision that is right for you.

The reconstructive procedure is performed under general anesthesia and you will stay in the hospital one to three days depending on the type of reconstruction you choose. The procedure can take between one to three hours and will be longer for bilateral (both breasts) reconstruction. The recovery at home is approximately three to four weeks and will be longer if you choose a TRAM reconstruction.

Liposuction

As the most common Cosmetic Surgery procedure performed in the U. S., Liposuction can help give you the shape you desire. Proper diet and exercise are vital to looking and feeling better about your appearance, but liposuction can help improve your contour in those “hard to lose” areas. Dr. Fedele performs Liposuction to remove excess fatty tissue in those areas diet and exercise can not seem to improve, resulting in a smoother more contoured appearance.

Dr. Fedele uses the “tumescent” technique which involves injecting fluid into the area to be treated containing a “numbing” medication, and epinephrine for less blood loss. This will provide you with more comfort and speed your recovery time with less bruising. Dr. Fedele also uses ultrasonic liposuction for difficult areas like the back or revision liposuction.

The procedure is typically performed under sedation or “twighlight” anesthesia as an outpatient at an ambulatory surgical center. The procedure can take between two to three hours depending on how many areas are treated, and you will be discharged home when stable. The incisions are small and well hidden and will fade with time. You will wear a compression garment for four weeks to help control swelling and bruising.

All surgical procedures carry risks and Dr. Fedele will spend time with you at your consultation to explain the procedure in detail and any risks involved. This website is designed to give you some basic information about Liposuction and is not a substitute for a comprehensive consultation and exam with Dr. Fedele. Tummy Tuck

If your stomach is not as flat as you want it despite regular exercise, or if weight loss or pregnancy has stretched your skin out of shape, an abdominoplasty may be just what you need. Excess skin is removed and loose abdominal muscles are tightened giving you a flatter, smoother appearing stomach. Dr. Fedele performs an abdominoplasty to remove excess fatty tissue and skin in the lower abdomen giving you a shapelier mid drift while tightening the waist “repairing” the damage done by pregnancy or excessive weight loss.

Because there are different degrees of excess skin and fat, Dr. Fedele offers a variety of procedures to contour the abdomen. When you have no excess skin but want to get rid of the fat, then liposuction alone can remove unwanted fatty deposits. When there is a combination of fat and some mild skin excess, then a “mini” abdominoplasty may be your best option to flatten your stomach. If there is moderate to severe skin excess then a full abdominoplasty would give the best results. Whatever your needs are, Dr Fedele will assess your abdomen during your initial consultation and give you the option that best fits your individual needs.

The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient at an ambulatory surgical center. The procedure can take between two to three hours and you will be discharged home when stable. The incisions are placed at or near the bikini line and around the belly button to keep them well hidden and they will fade with time. You will wear a compression garment for four weeks to help control swelling and bruising and support your stomach through the healing process.

All surgical procedures carry risks and Dr. Fedele will spend time with you at your consultation to explain the procedure in detail and any risks involved. Thigh Lift

Sometimes the excess skin and fat can extend around your waist to the lateral sides and posterior trunk. Massive weight loss, multiple pregnancies, or the effects of gravity and aging can cause the lower abdomen, flanks and buttocks to sag, leaving you with excess skin and fat. Dr. Fedele performs a lower body lift to flatten the stomach, taper the waist, and lift the lateral thighs and buttocks to make a dramatic improvement to your figure.

If there is moderate to severe skin excess, typically after weight loss, it usually is not limited to the stomach and front portion of your body. This procedure can remove all this sagging skin and fat around your waistline. The result is a better contour all the way around your lower body. At the same time your lateral thighs and buttocks are lifted giving you shapelier thighs and buttocks.

The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient at an ambulatory surgical center. The procedure can take between four to five hours and you may stay overnight and be discharged home in the morning when stable. The incisions are placed at or near the bikini line in front and extend around the waistline to the back as well as around the belly button to keep them hidden and they will fade with time. You will wear a compression garment for four weeks to help control swelling and bruising and support your stomach through the healing process. The recovery time is longer with this more extensive body contouring procedure.

All surgical procedures carry risks and Dr. Fedele will spend time with you at your consultation to explain the procedure in detail and any risks involved. Arm Lift

Excess skin and fat are not limited to the body, the upper arms can carry extra tissue making it difficult to wear short sleeve shirts or find clothing that fits properly. A Brachioplasty will remove this excess skin and fat that may be present after weight loss or the effects of age and gravity. Dr. Fedele performs a Brachioplasty to slim down the upper arms, giving them a tapered look, bringing your arms into better proportion with the rest of your body.

A Brachioplasty can be performed at the same time as other body contouring procedures giving your body a balanced look. Many times liposuction is added to the procedure to help decrease the amount of fatty tissue, enhancing the overall result.

The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient at an ambulatory surgical center. The procedure can take about two hours and you will be discharged home when stable. The incisions are placed on the inside of your upper arm to keep them hidden and they will fade with time. You will wear a compression garment for two weeks to help control swelling and bruising and support your arms through the healing process.

Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty can enhance the shape and appearance of your nose, by removing a prominent hump or defining the nasal tip giving you better balance to your face. Dr. Fedele uses digital computer imaging to review your photos and what changes can be made to your nose. By using this interactive tool Dr. Fedele becomes more aware of the changes that you would like to have made to your nose and then you can visualize how these changes will look on you. Dr. Fedele performs Rhinoplasty surgery to improve the look of your nose giving you a natural more aesthetically pleasing appearance.

You will wear a nasal splint for one week and will likely have bruising around the eyes. The splint is removed in the first week and most people return to work in seven to ten days.

If you are experiencing difficulty with breathing through your nose, Dr. Fedele can help by opening your nasal passages allowing more air flow. Whether due to a previous nasal injury or just a naturally blocked passage, most insurance companies will cover surgery relating to opening the obstructed nasal airway.

When we talk about achieving a balance to your face with Rhinoplasty, sometimes this involves enhancing the chin. Some people who feel their nose is projecting too far out from their face may have a small or “weak” chin. When viewed from a profile, the nose and chin are out of balance. Corrective Rhinoplasty to enhance the nose may be combined with a chin augmentation using an implant. The result is a much stronger more balanced appearing profile.

All surgical procedures carry risks and Dr. Fedele will spend time with you at your consultation to explain the procedure in detail and any risks involved.
