Chemical Peel
What is a chemical peel?
The chemical peel is a procedure which can improve the appearance of the facial skin by removing the damaged outer layers. Chemical peels can treat a variety of skin imperfections including blemishes, wrinkles, uneven skin tone, pre-cancerous skin growths and acne scars. There are three types of chemical peels including the phenol peel which is the strongest, the trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peel, and the alphahydroxy acid (AHA) peel which is the mildest.
Who is a candidate for a chemical peel?
Candidates for the chemical peel include men and women who are looking to improve wrinkles and other blemishes of the facial skin. It's also important that chemical peel candidates be in good physical health, psychologically stable and have realistic expectations. The chemical peel can be particularly effective in treating fine wrinkles on the cheeks, forehead and eye area as well as vertical wrinkles around the mouth.
What is an AHA peel?
The AHA, or alphahydroxy acid, peel is the mildest of the chemical peels and may use glycolic, lactic or fruit acids to produce a brighter and smoother skin appearance. AHA can also be used as part of a daily skin care regime by mixing it into a facial wash or cream in lesser concentrations. AHA peels can treat rough, dry or sun-damaged skin and can help to control acne. Multiple peels may be necessary in order to achieve the best results.
What is a TCA peel?
The TCA, or trichloroacetic acid, peel can be used in varying strengths but is most often used as a medium-depth peel to improve fine surface wrinkles, pigment problems and superficial blemishes. TCA peels tend to involve a shorter and easier recovery, though they cannot produce the same dramatic and long-lasting results of a phenol peel.
What is a phenol peel?
The phenol peel is the strongest chemical peel and is able to produce very dramatic and long-lasting results. Phenol peels can treat coarse facial wrinkles, blotchy or sun-damaged skin and pre-cancerous growths. The recovery tends to be longer and more extensive. In addition, the phenol peel is not recommended for darker-skinned individuals because the skin often lightens with treatment.
What can I expect during consultation for a chemical peel?
During consultation, surgeon will discuss your goals and expectations. He or she should explain all details of the procedure, including the technique, the particular peel, the risks and benefits, the recovery period and the costs. Be sure to ask any questions or express any concerns that you may have at this time. Dr. Duboys or Dr. Sirota will carefully examine your facial skin during your consultation and discuss the possibilities available to you as well as your expectations for the outcome.
What form of anesthesia is the chemical peel performed with?
Anesthesia is not necessary for the chemical peel. An anesthetic is included in the chemical solution of phenol and TCA peels. With the AHA peel, only a slight stinging sensation is felt.
How much pain is associated with the chemical peel?
Patients may experience some tingling, throbbing or other discomfort after a TCA or phenol peel which can usually be controlled with mild pain medication.
What is the recovery like after a chemical peel?
The recovery after an AHA peel is the mildest whereas recovery after a phenol peel is the most extensive. Patients may experience some minor and temporary stinging, redness, irritation, crusting flaking, scaling or dryness after an AHA peel. Similar side effects may occur after a TCA or phenol peel, along with some temporary throbbing, tingling and swelling. Crusts or scabs usually occur on the treatment area after the TCA and phenol peel. The new skin will emerge within five to ten days after a TCA peel and within seven to twenty-one days after a phenol peel. Full healing and fading of the redness may take as much as three to six months after a phenol peel. The skin should be protected from the sun after undergoing a chemical peel.

Liposculpture
What is liposculpture?
Liposculpture, or liposuction as it is also known, is a procedure which removes localized deposits of fat in order to re-contour and sculpt areas of the body. Liposculpture is commonly used to treat the upper arms, hips, abdomen, buttocks, thighs, knees, chin, cheeks and neck.
Who is a candidate for liposculpture?
Candidates for liposculpture include men and women who are looking to improve the appearance of unwanted fat. It's also important that liposculpture candidates be in good physical health, psychologically stable and have realistic expectations. The procedure is ideal for individuals who are of normal body weight but have stubborn areas of fat that have proven diet- and exercise-resistant.
What is fluid injection?
Fluid injection is a newer liposuction technique in which a medicated solution is first injected into the fatty areas prior to its removal. The fluid is comprised of intravenous salt solution, lidocaine and epinephrine and it makes the fat easier to remove. In addition, fluid injection tends to involve less blood loss and post-operative bruising. Varying amounts of the solution may be used. Tumescent liposuction uses large volumes of fluid equaling as much as three times the amount of fat to be removed. The super-wet technique, on the other hand, uses an amount of fluid that is about equal to the amount of fat being removed.
What is ultrasound assisted lipoplasty?
Ultrasound assisted lipoplasty, or UAL, is a liposuction technique that uses a special cannula which produces ultrasonic energy. This energy first liquefies the fat, facilitating its removal.
What occurs during a consultation for liposculpture?
During the consultation for liposculpture, your will meet with either Dr. Duboys or Dr. Sirota. After carefully examining the condition of your skin and where your fat deposits lie, the doctor will discuss your expectations and the possibilities available to you. All details of the liposculpture procedure will be explained and any questions that you have answered. .
Where is liposculpture performed?
At Associated Plastic Surgeons & Consultants, Dr. Duboys and Dr. Sirota perform liposculpture in their in-office operating room, a state-of-the-art facility that is fully approved by the American Association for the Accreditation of Surgery Facilities (AAAASF) for class A/B/C surgical procedures.
What form of anesthesia is liposculpture performed with?
Liposculpture may be performed with different forms of anesthesia including general anesthesia, regional anesthesia, or local anesthesia on its own or combined with sedation.
How is liposculpture performed?
Liposculpture begins by making a small incision in the treatment area. A narrow tube known as a cannula is inserted through the incision and manipulated to disrupt the fat. The fat is then suctioned out. With fluid injection, a newer liposculpture technique, a fluid containing intravenous salt solution, lidocaine and epinephrine is first injected into the fatty areas, facilitating its removal. With UAL, ultrasonic energy is first used to liquefy that fat before removal.
How long is the surgical time for liposculpture?
Liposculpture takes an average of one to two hours to perform, though the exact amount of time will depend on the number and size of areas being treated.
Are there scars after liposculpture?
The incisions made for liposculpture are very small and strategically placed. As a result, any scars tend to be imperceptible.
How much pain is associated with liposculpture?
There is usually some discomfort following liposculpture. Specifically, patients may experience some temporary burning or other pain. Prescription medication can help to manage this.
What sort of recovery is there after liposculpture?
Drainage tubes may be applied after surgery and are typically removed within a couple of days. Patients are typically required to wear a compression garment for several weeks after the liposculpture procedure. Swelling is common and the compression garment will help to control this. Other side effects may include pain, burning, bleeding and temporary numbness. Patients will see a noticeable difference soon after surgery, though it may take up to three months for the swelling to subside and allow the final result to be evident.
How soon after liposculpture can patients return to work?
Most patients are able to return to work and most other normal activities within several days after undergoing liposculpture. More extensive procedure may involve a longer recovery.
Are the results of liposculpture permanent?
If patients follow a healthy diet and get regular exercise after undergoing liposculpture, the results can be long lasting.

During the laser hair removal procedure, the Light Sheer Diode Laser is passed over the treatment area and emits pulses of highly concentrated light that is absorbed the pigment in the hair follicles. This vaporizes the pigment, disabling several follicles at a time and eliminating or significantly reducing hair growth. At the same time, the special contact-cooling hand piece continually protects and cools the surrounding skin. Because the laser treats only hair that is in the active growth phase, additional sessions may be necessary.
